Kemmerer's research interests include formal specification and verification of computer systems, system and network security and reliability, programming and specification language design, and software engineering.  His most recent research includes intrusion detection, research on malicious code and the cyber underground economy (viruses, botnets, fake AV, click fraud), web security, secure electronic voting, and cyber situation awareness.
