Anthony Cheetham, the founding director of UCSB's Materials Research Laboratory, was recognized for services to material chemistry, science in the United Kingdom, and global outreach. 

Giovanni Vigna and Yuan Xie are among 58 researchers to become ACM Fellows in 2019.

A pair of CoE faculty were among the nine UCSB researchers elected Fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. 

Only the top one percent of researchers in each field, in terms of references and citations in journals, earned the distinction.
