The 3D-printed pitcher: The work setup for this ceramicist (upper left) allows her to begin by throwing the basic cylindrical form the traditional way (top right), pulling up the clay on the potter's wheel. At a certain point (bottom right), the nozzle delivers the clay in a different format, allowing the ceramicist to begin buiiding the textured exterior. Tthe combination of traditional ceramics craft skills and computer-assisted functions of the 3D printer enable the final form to be realized (bottom left). Photographs courtesy of Jennifer Jacobs.
