UC Santa Barbara’s New Engineering-Science Building Wins AIA Design Award for Regional and Urban Design
The American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC) has given its Award for Regional and Urban Design to the architects of UC Santa Barbara’s new Engineering-Science Building.
The building, which was formally opened in October, 2004, is a multi-disciplinary research and teaching facility occupied primarily by faculty, staff and students from electrical and computer engineering. It contains about 90,000 square feet of nanofabrication and teaching facilities, research laboratories, teaching and conference spaces and offices for faculty, staff, post-doctoral students and graduate students. The building design allows for future needs and flexibility in response to changes in academic curricula or research demands.
The architects for the building were Anshen & Allen, Los Angeles. The award will be presented at the 17 th Annual Monterey Design Conference in September at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, California.
