Welcome to the Gordon Lab!

Our research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and engineering of nanostructured materials and systems for photonic, energy, and chemical conversion applications. We seek to understand how size, morphology, organization, and surface structure affect the physicochemical properties and behavior of materials over different length, time, and energy scales. The majority of our work is "hands-on" experimental science involving nanofabrication (litho, etching, plasma deposition, CVD, and nanoparticle synthesis), scanning probe microscopy (AFM, SNOM, STM), optical spectroscopies (Raman, PL, UV/Vis/IR), and traditional surface science.

Current interest areas include:
•  Developing new tools for nanoscale characterization
•  Bio-inspired photonics
•  Microplasmas and plasma-surface interactions
•  Structure-property relations of catalytic & magnetic materials
•  Spectroscopy of energy and chemical conversion materials
